"I always say that my artwork is an inspirational poster to myself. And this work is no different. In the past months of familial solitude I found myself returning to my painting and illustration roots. So many of us were and are stuck inside with our families. I was living with 3 teenagers. You know that whole story.. I was getting to know them in new ways as they move into adults, as well as seeing them become nostalgic for their childhoods. Silly animal memes were sent around the house - all of us trying to out-cute each other. It will be a quarantine-memory forever.
All of the animals in these works are symbols. Some have a great deal of personal meaning to me, and some were part of the meme quest for the cutest animals on earth. (The quest has not ended!) My family has needed them for cheer and positivity. The summertime drinks are commentary about timely and trending consumer products; a canned or bottled essence of ephemeral, summery feelings. All part of our ‘Lost Summer’ experience."
